All About Christopher
Multimedia Producer
“The deeper you go, the weirder life gets”
My name is Christopher Hocking and I am an experienced and enthusiastic Multimedia Producer. With over seven years of knowledge in digital design, animation, videography and editing, I love working as a multimedia producer for various clients, from start up to corporate.
I have worked as a multimedia producer for the Australian School of Applied Management, and as an animator on children’s cartoon’s such as Jar Dwellers at Viskatoons, Little J and Big Cuz (Logie award winning) and Fanshaw and Crudnut for Blue Rocket, and Kitty’s not a Cat for BOGAN Entertainment Solutions.
I have also freelanced for a variety of brands including Australian Unity, SAE Institute, DeBortoli Wines, Back in Motion and NAB, as well as animated projections in multiple stage productions for Melbourne Opera.
I have a Masters in Animation (RMIT 2010), Graduate Diploma of Multimedia (Swinburne 2014) and Bachelor of Fine Arts (RMIT 2007) and I am very keen to continue my career in this field. I have a strong sense of visual storytelling as well as the technical knowledge to realise ideas.
I am proficient in the Adobe Suite -After Effects, Premier Pro, Audition, Photoshop, Illustrator, Lightroom and Animate. I have experience in rigging in Animate, Toonboom and using Duik Bassel in After Effects.
Through my undergraduate and postgraduate studies and time in the industry I have gained a good understanding of the principles of film-making, animated infographics and character animation, as well as building up a strong sense of design with good drawing skills. It also made me appreciate working to a tight schedule and doing whatever it takes to meet that deadline. After my studies my free-lance work allowed me to gain the ability to take direction and listen to and implement required changes, and also gain an eye for detail. Self- motivation is key in working on my own projects.
My Masters of Animation focused on directing and ensured that I mastered the technical skills relevant for creation and development. A big unit in the course involved completing a short animation, from concept to final product. I wrote the script, designed the characters and did all the animation and backgrounds myself, and I was awarded the “People’s Choice” award at the RMIT Masters Graduation Exhibition. My Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts at RMIT majored in painting. This was an excellent basis for my Masters of Animation as I was able to continue to explore and develop my techniques and craft in a more creative and liberal manner, whilst mastering technical and directorship skills. I complete the Graduate Certificate in Multimedia to broaden my skills and bring it together with my creative interests, but I have always felt my passion lies in the artistic and creative spectrum.
Although animation and the visual arts are a huge part of my life, they are not my whole life. Before moving to Tasmania I was the night manager of Australia's oldest running comedy club, The Last Laugh at The Comedy Club. This involved not only managing a staff of six to eight every Friday and Saturday night but also liaising with comedians, interacting with customers, dealing with the pay and money at the end of the night and making sure the night ran smoothly. Managing the venue also meant I was able to run nights other than comedy and I used to run a very successful night with bands and DJ's.
